Ethnobotanical Diversity of Trees and Shrubs of Iran: A Comprehensive Review

Iran, possessing unique topographic and diverse climatic conditions, is the home of 8167 vascular plant species. Iran has a historical tradition in using plants for medicinal purposes. Approximately 2075 species over whole are popularly characterized as or aromatic. Medicinal trees shrubs compose significant percentage Iranian flora. Nonetheless, there no integrated databases on their applications most publications documents have been scattered to date. Therefore, present investigation aims integrate published literature considering its ethnobotanical aspects that would serve promising precursors developing potent medicines origin. In study, we compile information about ethnobotany Iran. Our survey found 174 taxa belonging 109 genera 56 families. The majority were classified Rosaceae, Fabaceae, Rutaceae, Salicaceae, Lamiaceae Rosaceae was dominant, representing 21.8% total recorded, among them, genus with highest number Prunus (16 species). Berberis vulgaris, Citrus limon, Betula pendula uses (24 uses) Leaves (22.7%) represented dominant usage parts, while commonly used preparation method infusion (33.5%).
